Back again. Greeting 2011 with a remix that has been lying around for a while but one I hadn't gotten around posting yet. Hercules & Love Affair underwent a bit of a transformation in member composition, but it's just good that they're back. 'My House' has a full 90's sound, that Leo Zero took just that one extra step further.
Honouring the original house masters, it's got an amazing crisp sound and an excellent bass that my broken headphones don't do justice at all. Get a decent soundsystem to play this!
And in case you're feeling some melancholy for the 90's, have a look at the video they released for the track today, total drawback in time - including 90's ads intermission (around 3:30). Watch it here.

SSSSOUNDTRACK PT.VIII - THE MANERO EDITION

Summer has been trying to sneak off, but we won't let it go without the right soundtrack to accompany its retreat. Number eight in the SSSSOUNDTRACK series will fit that bill perfectly: On decks this time is Manero, a project that started only a few months ago but behind it is a duo from London with a longlasting love for music. Their mixes are predominantly based around disco and house music, though they try to incorporate all the different styles and genres that influence them, such as 80s pop, motown, elements from 90s hip-hop, Detroit Techno, etc.

In this mix you're looking at edits form the likes of Spandau Ballet, Yazoo, Petshop Boys, fitted right next to more recent gems by (a.o.) Holy Ghost!, Ilija Rudman, CFCF, Hercules & Love Affair and (probably one of the most anticipated remixes of 2010), Tensnake's rendition of Azari & III's Reckless With Your Love. At the end of all this goodness is a beautiful Alalal remix of Metronomy that (at least I) hadn't been aware of until the boys pointed it out for us. Lovely all the way through.

In terms of the future, production work is in the pipeline for Manero, but they'll start putting stuff out there when it feels right - we all know those things shouldn't be rushed. At the moment they're adding the finishing touches to their own fortnightly podcast show (aiming to start Sept/Oct time), so there's more good things to come.

JESSICA SIX

Jessica 6 is Morgan Wiley, Andrew Raposo (you might know them from Automato) and Nomi Ruiz whose vocals you will surely recognise from Hercules & Love Affair. Fun Girl is what is to be expected from DFA musicians (=top quality), but be completley surprised by the B-side of the single, Not Anymore. (Have a listen on their myspace). Fun Girl's got excellent remixes by Liv Spencer and Keinemusik.
