An EP that's been on high rotation these last few weeks is Pharao Black Magic's Amulet, out on Is It Balearic? Recordings. To answer that question (I know I know, lame joke), but yes, it is very balearic, and all kinds of lovely. In short: one original, three remixes and copious amounts of sunny vibes are on offer here. And to elaborate on that: the original (with Peter Coyle on vocals) sits at a low tempo but with some elements that just can't keep you from moving. Sort of the greyish area of danceable/not danceable music that works like a treat if you can get the bpm low enough (if you didn't catch any of that: I'm being positive here). Begin's remix resolutely chooses the downtempo side of it that would do great at basically any place that has some sun rays to offer (as those are rather scarce at the moment: closing your eyes and imagining them will work as well), while Reverso 68's will definitely get your dancing feet out. It's just arrived in record stores, so get it here or at whatever record store you prefer. Indispensible in your summer's playlist!
Edwin 'Steel Drums' Van Cleef is on fire. As is Pharao Black Magic. Both just released a new EP, Edwin's EP being the subject of this post (you can still find PBM's EP here though). Apart from the title track 'Never Be Alone' (which features vocals by Chicago band Gemini Club), the EP includes two other originals, 'Triton' & 'I Feel You' - the former being the one that got a Pharao Black Magic treatment. The EP's sound is quite diverse yet shows a general club oriented feel, Triton in particular. Pharao Black Magic's version has a (what has come to be) very recognisable touch - and one I enjoy very much. Lastly, I don't know Ugly Kids very well but was quite charmed with their remix for Never Be Alone At Night. This Swiss duo brings lightness and a dose of sugar to the table; after an eventfull week this might be exactly what you need on a Sunday evening. Stream the entire EP on Edwin's soundcloud, buy it on Beatport orJuno.
Something to start the weekend with... This track is the B-side of Pharao Black Magic's upcoming 'Heliopolis' EP, that will be released on Nang Records on August 22nd. It's a 100% feel good track that should do quite well on a dancefloor too. It does make you excited to hear the A-side. Apart from the Nang release there's some remixes from Pharao Black Magic in the pipeline too, so keep an eye out, and in the meantime there's the excellent Summer mix I mentioned on FB and Twitter, but if you missed that: don't sleep on it now!
Pharao Black Magic have been featured on here numerous times before, but we're always happy when the Swiss duo has got new things to share. They're finally bringing out their first EP with original material plus two remixes, it's soon to be released on Nang Records. Also, they've made two remixes that are both coming out somewhere around April or May; one for Popular Computer and one for Tronik Youth. Now, in the meantime: below is an original track of theirs that is actually just a demo (one naughty computer and no backup are responsible for that), but it should keep you going until their new material comes out. Spring is approaching fast and this would be the perfect soundtrack to it!
Social Disco Club recently released his 'Peaceful Warrior' 12" on Is It Balearic? with remixes in the form of a combined effort by Soft Rocks & Lovefingers, a spun out version by Pacific Horizons, and a very melodic one by Swiss duo Pharao Black Magic that is probably the most accessible one of the three - and consequently also my favourite one. You can preview the entire 12" & get the vinyl here, a digital release should follow soon! Pharao Black Magic have also got a remix on the upcoming "The Array Vol. 2" compilation by Nang Records, to be released 7th of February. And last but not least, check the lovely mix they made for Juno.

Listening to Pharao Black Magic's new remix took me back to the ssssoundtrack they mixed last year and their previous remix for Ecce, beautiful music that can put a smile on about anyone's face. Their latest is a remix for fellow Swiss band Choo Choo and corresponds to all of the above; it's beautiful, airy, yet it transformed from being an enjoyable indie pop song to one that could fill an entire disco dancefloor. You can get the physical release on the band's website - loving that blue vinyl!
I'm very happy to present you the latest edition of the SSSSOUNDTRACK project, compiled & mixed by Swiss duo Pharao Black Magic. You might remember them from their Ecce remix I posted a while back; a different version of that same remix will be released on People In the Sky's compilation "You Will Know Us By The Trail of Avant Pop", out November 16. Another remix is coming at the end of the month and original PBM tracks should surface early next year! Ok, back to the SSSSOUNDTRACK now, the boys have done an impressive job mixing - among others - Prins Thomas, Air France, Thin White Duke, Linus Loves, Flight Facilities, Lifelike, Pete Herbert, Junkie XL, Electric Light Orchestra and so much more to be discovered. Download it HERE! And if you still can't get enough, their September mix is highly recommended!
Swiss duo Phantom Black Magic have been making mixes before, but this remix is a first (not released yet btw). Giving the original (which is also good) more of a disco feel, we can only wait for more!
